"The Scion of Halflings is Cooper Thistlewaithe, a young and agile male, currently serving as a scout for the Uplands Rangers. He may be either in his home town called Washturn Bluff, or at the Karthus Cliffs, or near the border with the West Gate with the Eastern Kingdom, as fell and foul creatures were reported in that area for the last couple decades. I haven’t met him, but I did meet the previous Scion, Wern Treffly, who lived in Vesuva until his untimely demise. I came by that name talking to the Mayor Polk Rodman. He’s the Mayor of Fipplesreed, the only town among the Halflings, as most of them have villages with elders. Fipplesreed is their largest town of some 10,000 individuals."
She is said to have caused so much devastation to the enemy as they fought on The Vigrid Plain south of Ingsbrook that no tree or shrub could grow there in fear of being cut down by her blade in battle again. The scene is from the end of the Battle of Ossîgo, which was the only time in recorded history an enemy made it to the banks of the river before being stopped by the combined forces of the Western Kingdom and the Men and Dwarves of Grünvik.

The oldest settlement of humans in Sarapadia, the City of Grünvik is Capital of the Northmen.

As described when the party first entered the city:

"The morning sunlight breaks fitfully in shafts through the cloud cover to highlight a system of glacial runoff rivers pouring like fountains over the edges of the massif and into the crevices below, their mist pouring a rainbow fog over the edges of the city and into the pathways nearby, all of them driving overshot water-wheels at their clifftop edges to provide their energy to the grain mills to grind their coarse winter wheat harvested from the Dakhân Plains nearby, or to power the trip hammers of the Grünvik Forges, designed by Dwarves and Men together, or to run the waterway sluices under the earth to provide running water to the parks and homesteads of the farms nearby. Bridges connect pathways carved from the living cliff faces to make multilevel streets and terraces, filled with planters and vegetable gardens sporting all manner of root vegetables, even hardy cabbages in the middle of winter due to the warmth from the earthen structures themselves. For a league to the north you espy a massive lumberyard the size of a town, and north of there to the sea coast is a shipyard of equal size where men and dwarves together fashion sea vessels and river vessels of all manner and sizes. A fleet of ships over a score in number dot the shoreline in dry dock, as though awaiting a call to duty.

The center of town is on the third terrace from the top level, the two levels above being clearly filled with watchmen and machinists and guards keeping an array of well-maintained siege equipment including massive ballista, catapults, and trebuchet. Grünvik keeps its back to the Ekartu Peak, the last of the Skyrend Mountains in their northeast, while its belly faces southeast toward Vesuva, whose Spear can be seen from here, with the sun glinting off its silvered peak 90 miles away.

The parapet wall around the third level appears carved from the living rock, and forms a massive balcony around a quarter of the mountain itself, the residences hollowed from the very rock with store houses as caves inside, and the smooth hewn ground upon which they walk fashioned to appear as fitted dwarven granite, when its is indeed simply carved form the mountain itself. The four levels below grow increasingly wider and less defended, being quite open at the bottom with stables, livestock, and warehouses for hay and for fish and other dried trade goods, a huge market sprawling along the road to the east, trailing off as it nears the West Greenwood March Road. The inner passages and roads leading inside the mountain include massive elevator systems powered by the waterwheels above, through sealed stone sluices powered entirely by ancient hydraulic systems that were once common in the ancient Dwarven Empire. Nearly half the area of the city is inside the mountain itself, and that Grünvik remains the oldest and most successful settlement of Men and Dwarves in all of Sarapadia. The fourth and fifth (counting from the top, as Dwarves do) levels house most of the residents of the city, the third level being for the local administrators and the residence of the king and his family. Each level is separated by terrace edges and walls and some crops, and sits between 80’ to 120’ apart in each step."

Grünvik is home to the Stävholl used for large public gatherings, and the more ornate Kingshall.
The Tinwael Galéth (the Vast Greenwood in the Common Tongue of Sarapadia) is a massive forest spread along the entire northern coast of the continent of Sarapadia. It was originally populated sparsely by some humans and halflings, but elves came at the onset of the Ulon-Zirak from a far away land called Tarisir in Apadia and a tribe of the settlers moved north under the direction of a powerful elven enchantress named Tifira. Over the last millennium, the Tribe of Tifira thrived and settled the entire forest, dividing it into three regions: The Eastern Kingdom, the home of Tifira, and the seat of power at the Capital; the Middle Kingdom, currently under the rule of Nissa; and the Western Kingdom, currently under the rule of Ardaz. References to the Westgate, Southgate, and Eastgate refer to the forest as a whole, but each region has localized gates made to look like other region gates as a sign of fellowship.

Urdai Sinwal and Tinwael Galéth both are largely populated by elves who speak generally intelligible dialects. Some words are just loaned to the other for names which are localized when spoken. The words Sinwal and Tinwael are cognates, from an ancient Apadian elvish *tsinwael, forest, literally bark-home. Thus the common tongue of the Karthus Plains uses "wood" or "bark" with the color descriptors Galéth (green) or Urdai (grey) to form Greenwood and Greybark, respectively.

The Eastern Kingdom
The Eastern Kingdom is the location of the Capital of all of the Tinwael Galéth, but this has been a mere technicality for some 600 years, with each region keeping its own business and choosing its own leadership. The Capital remains the home of the Enchantress of the Portals, and all enchantresses have ever been born there since its founding and the construction of the first Portal at the Northern Sea Cave. The government has typically been formed of the Enchantress as Queen, or a close relative, and then she married an arranged suitor from the political realm of the Eastern Kingdom. The most recent King and Queen, Galen and Marah, were murdered 70 years ago, leaving a Steward, Pertwyn, in executive control of the Eastern Kingdom until Rheya reclaims her throne.

The Eastern Kingdom has been silent and in some sort of seclusion over the last 70 years, and only recently has contact been made to discover the greatly reduced and sequestered population.

The Middle Kingdom
The Middle Kingdom is home to the more nature-attuned and less civics-attuned Children of Tifira's Tribe. They live attuned with nature in an autonomous collective loosely ruled by Queen Nissa currently. There is a mirror of the positions in government there as there is at the Capital, but they are volunteer positions awarded on merit rather than related to bloodline.
The seat of power for the Middle Kingdom is Kyrfor, home to the great tree Ülamalora.

The Western Kingdom
The Western Kingdom is a militaristic culture of warrior-kings. The current King Ardaz was chosen by majority among the current wariors of the kingdom. The Western Edge troops are the elite troops warding the western edge of the Tinwael Galéth and are on excellent social terms with the Northmen of Grünvik.

Grünvik is home to the Stävholl used for large public gatherings.
"The Scion of the Gnomes was last reported over 20 years ago as Göia Goodpenny, but her whereabouts haven’t been confirmed for decades. Her last known location was Kîmet. Since the machines of the Gnomes are that which brought down the Chromatic Dragons, or appeared to do the majority of the work, it makes sense to me that The Enemy would strike there to assure that the fully-capable Scion would be killed, and it would take a generation to bring another to adulthood, providing the time necessary to hunt that Scion down, which explains the need for The Enemy to ward the materials and homelands of the Gnomes and Dwarves. I didn’t learn her name until recently, myself."

By Göia's own accounting, the Goodpenny clan is not thought well of among the halfling community. She said of her clan, "We have aided and abetted the Enemy and this is now my shame to bear. My parents were both so enthralled by the words and will of the Enemy that they never saw me escape, and my power as a Scion likely hid me from the Enemy’s view, and therefore, consideration. I escaped and was rescued by the Everharts, who knew not of me, but knew the treachery of my clan name, so they gave me the name Aelwen. I told them my clan was annihilated and I would seek to join a new clan that would have me. The Potters took me in, and gave me their name to use. The ballast access reveals extradimensional compartments for stowage, whose contents are described each on its own page. Any asterto, control mechanisms, an Dragon Seeds used to power it are listed as well. The Windvayne is its default control implement and can be used with any asterto, and there is a globe fore on the ship to store up to a dozen dragon seeds, all of which can lend power and effect to the Skutawig, making it the fastest and most versatile exploration vessel ever conceived.

When loaded with four or more Dragon Seeds, it appears made of fine vellum with silvered edges, bound in thick rich red leather which evokes a scale pattern in its design. The corners and spine are reinforced and clad with thick silver corners and edgings, and a large circular motif of a seed in the center of the book shows a dull, glowing red Dragon Seed. The knotwork on the edges is a deep azure, and the centerplate knotwork edging is in a deep green. All the edging is frosted on the edges, blending like a small airbrush added frost. It is a truly amazing atlas, and the Dragon Seeds inside energize the book itself and make it work, according to the entry for the book itself on page 1, right before the Table of Contents. The Indices are ridiculous, and the Appendices detailed, with references to blank pages that, as the book explains, will re-image when those objects are returned. Pages are added when new articles are introduced, without ever making the book any thicker or heavier. All stored information ever recorded by Skutawig may be viewed on the apparently blank pages with some arcane knowledge, some spells Omen doesn’t recognize, or something called an Enchanter’s Loupe.
Omen discovers from the entries of the Dragon Seeds themselves and then marvels at the cross-referenced table in Appendix D which stones can power which artifacts by name and function, if noted; otherwise a simple “x” marks a valid or useful interaction. The line for the Skutawig is full, with remarks on every color (red, green, black, white, and blue) and, an apparently new column for a Silver Dragon Seed and a comment, “increased performance.” Also on the table are two categories of machinery, mobile and fixed. The mobile ones are named for creatures they reminded the creators of, and the fixed ones are named for their function or their effect. This is also true for weapons, but those entries are few: the Sunspear, the Ingsrod, and the Viper. The fixed machines are many, but the information is otherwise blank as the names like Pump and Bellows and Sluice Gate are pretty straightforward. The mobile machines are divided into the eorthbol and the gusbol; the former named for terrestrial machines and the latter for sea fowl. Among the eorthbol are the names Mole, Badger, Beaver, Crab, Squirrel, Wolverine, Boar, Yak, and Moose. The gusbol are listed as Blaquïngle (Black Pelican), Skutawig (Paper Glider in honor of Skíðblaðnir), Risanqi (Albatross), Fiskur (Seahawk), Doska (Sea Shrike), and Erne (Giant Eagle).

The Skutawig was regrettably destroyed when The Party fought Baba Yaga and her Hut.
Acting on Gári's suspicions, The Party decided to interogate Kasten, and he confirmed his orders originally came from Nüat, and he assumed it was the decree of their king. He confirms his tenure as a tax collector, accountant, and remunerator to the Goldenboars on behalf of the Goodpennys from a period of time some 50 years ago until 20 years ago, when Kîmet fell and he fled to the West March only to find a forest overrun and the Western Outpost abandoned. His folk fled further north and received orders from Nüat to ward the remains of Kîmet as the new castellan, as though they were orders from the King himself. The Everharts continued to discover enclaves and serve as a liaison between them, while the remnants of the Goodpennys were later enslaved to serve The Enemy. Only with your recent visits did Kasten have any hope that his fool’s errand would finally come to an end, and now that he sees that he can help to rebuild something his clan destroyed, he seems ever-bent upon this task. You realize that this labor is not one of love, but rather, of penance. This would likely explain his haggard appearance, the dark circles under his eyes, and the incredible landscape design he has performed. Udoros and Laima both agree the fortifications they have now and the layout of the surrounding area makes this location surprisingly defensible, and of sufficient quality to give problems to bulettes and remorhaz which could return.
The Party presented Kasten to Kyðeon with the results of his interrogation, claiming Kasten was likely under the sway or even spell of The Enemy. Kyðeon revealed he is still holding Nüat until he determines a proper course of action. He still feels execution is the wisest course for the safety of his people, but also sends a mixed message to leaders about how leadership operates. Kyðeon notes Lord General Maecas and the tale of his brother at the hand of his own father, and admits his alarm at how far the Eastern Kingdom drifted from the time of his sister’s influence.

Jiala Holloway is Váthi’s mother and one of the Feldwynnen, the female elven rangers of the north who could adapt to the land so well that they could shape-change in it. Some believe they have seen them in feral form, but never confirmed, as they are typically impossible to track.

Jiala was known to Cathartic by name of Sítha. Jiala/Sítha offered her ship to give Cathartic and her future handmaidens passage to Sarapadia. She showed Masako how to pilot the craft and helped them acquire the goods they needed for their journey, paying for their food and clothing with the gold she got for the ship. The elven ship was small but seaworthy, and very easy to pilot, and its appearance being low and dark made it difficult to spot. Sítha also showed Masako how to navigate in day and night, and gave them a small crystal she called a sun-stone to use for navigation as their polar trip would render a compass useless. When Masako asked why Sítha was helping them leave the archipelago, Sítha replied that it was foretold by Nissa and that they were to sail to Kyrfor in the Middle Kingdom, and Sítha was to carry on and look for a route from the archipelago to the mainlaind in a hunt for a safe route to contact the Elves of Tarisir.
Little was know about her whereabouts in the years following her encounter with Cathartic until she met the party. She relayed the following information:
“I have spent the last three decades using the island archipelago called Wakoku, Cathartic’s island of origin, as a base of operations since it seemed spared from the ravages of war. All of Apadia is changed from what Kyðeon described, with Tarisir being a fragment of its former glory. Where once was a lush forest covering much of Thalássia, there is now desert, a wasteland of death as far as the eye can see. Only in the southern portion of the land mass is any of the forest remaining, and only perhaps a quarter of its size. Palám is both better and worse: there are more settlements of good folk, but the southern tip and the mountains there are are teeming with evil and fell creatures: hobgoblins, drow, spiders, duergar, and a number of dragons and wyverns. They number in the tens of thousands, and the entire southern sea coast is one giant shipyard and dockyard as they construct massive warships to bring their invasion forces to Sarapadia. I may have encountered other feldwynnen there, but we tend to not socialize as we have our own missions to accomplish. I did find the remains of a number of my clan, who were enslaved magically and forced to stay in their feral form, then hunted for sport. I found some of their heads mounted as trophies in the halls of Dukhâl, the Giant Lord of their shipyards. I stole their maps and their missives to troops for movements and brought them with me for analysis by the Loremasters of the Western Kingdom to compute the actual troop numbers and locations, launch dates, and landing dates for the Enemy’s forces. We have to notify King Kyðeon and Lord General Maecas of the incoming forces. Why they would choose to invade Sarapadia seems a folly to me; the land of Apadia is plundered and wasted to the preference of the Enemy, with scant few outposts of good folk who still continue to fight against his machinations. Khâm is even overrun with evildoers, while good folk still infest it and thwart the plans of the Enemy there. I served my part there, and in Tarisir, and in the Wastelands, and escaped from there back to Wakoku, and then back across the Arctic Sea in my kayak. I see a preparation for invasion of Sarapadia on the southern sea coast near Kîmet, but I don’t know how they could sail between the coast and Am-Khûr, and still land on the coast near Kîmet without the Gnomes and Dwarves sinking their ships on the rocks by controlling the tides or using their machines to send them either underwater or to the currents of Am-Khûr where the island awaits to feast upon them.”

The Apadian Empire existed with last direct knowledge some 1003 years after the Ulon-Zirak. Current primary sources of data include that from Jiala Holloway (Váthi's mother) and Kyðeon. One secondary source has been found, an account discovered in the possession of the Vesuvan Assassin's Guild folk in a hideout near the Eastern Downs, as deciphered by Jarek.

Apadia refers to the Empire of Apadia itself, and the associated land masses. The largest land mass is Palám, to the east; and the second is Thalássia, to the west. There are some island archipelagoes part of the Empire, including a small one to the northeast from which Cathartic claims to hail.

Khâm is the sea capital on the western edge of Thalássia.

The largest forest in Apadia is Tarisir, home of elves, which takes up most of the southern half of Palám.

The Feldwynnen, a special elite ranger group from the Western Kingdom, who are selected and trained to find a route to Apadia and bring any intel back that they can gather. Jiala was the most recent emissary sent, and she has only managed two reports in over five decades, with her last report more than thirty years ago.

The name Sarapadia was derived from the ancient Apadian tongue to mean "New Apadia."

Gári Everhart is the de-facto governor of the gnomish refugees in Vesuva.
She is a saggy wizened gnome female, tall for her kin at over three and a half feet, and sturdy like a Dwarf. Her pale skin is old and wrinkled, her nose a bulbous appendage dominating her wizened face below her slits for eyes, her eyelids piled on each other. He mouth is a wide thin line, a smile pushing her eyes nearly shut as her cheeks bulge around her nose, her pointed chin thrust forward by her craned neck. Her plain blue and grey tabard and apron cover her charcoal woolen breeks and shirt, over which she wears a wool coat of ash grey trimmed with ochre leather at the hem, plaquet, and cuffs. She has a matching leather and wool toque holding her lengthy hair in a large cone on her head, with braids of her fine silver and grey hair falling on either side of her face, terminated in Gnomish Silver aglets, matching the studs of her belt, from which hang some small phials of different colors.

Her clan, Everhart, are the warrior-clan of the city of Kîmet, and would range wide to seek out threats. As the gnomish empire fragmented under the suspect leadership of the Goodpenny Clan, The Everharts and their kinfolk stayed on the move, traveling north to Hâzek, then northwest to Tarkis, then back through the valley and across the North March Road. They cared for their young along the way, but stopped the luxury of having Gnomelings for these two decades.
